Climate Activism in NYC

Documentary (2025)

This short documentary explores how climate activists in New York City organize to fight for climate justice in a country whose president denies climate change. What drives them to organize and protest? What strategies do they employ? How do they perceive the effectiveness of activism?

The film aims to shine a light on the resistance that people in New York City are showing against the Trump administration. I hope to help lift democratic supporters out of their inertia and to mobilize more people to fight for democracy and climate justice.

Courting

Fiction Film (Scene) (2025)

‘Courting’ is the story of two ambitious young lawyers who have an enthralling and lengthy conversation at a bar one evening, only to find out a few days later that they work for opposing parties in an internationally relevant court case. Their first attraction to each other's minds turns into hatred within a day, because of the opposing nature of their positions in court. That hatred softens over the decade that the trial endures and merges into a formative relationship for them both. In what feels like forbidden conversations, they question what justice means and what role court cases, retribution, and reparations play in achieving it.

The Coffee Break Scene shows their moment of re-meeting during a coffee break after the first session of the hearing, and realizing they are arguing for opposing sides of the court case.

Next to practicing creating life-like lighting in the studio, this shoot was a first-time experiment for the dolly zoom. This clip served as my final film for my 'Cinematography and Lighting Design' with Matte Chi during my exchange semester at Pratt Institute. Thank you to Matte Chi for your guidance and to my classmates for your help and tips throughout this class!

Right to Rest Protest Rotterdam

Mobilization video (2024)

Before the planned closure of a shelter for undocumented people in Rotterdam, the Pauluskerk, an organization helping homeless and undocumented people, called for action: for all people in Rotterdam to join the protest that happened on December 18, 2024, to demand the continuation of the shelters and protect those people in society that are most vulnerable, instead of setting them out to live in the streets.

In Despising Memory of Sexism

Performance and music video (2020)

This was an interactive art installation I created after skimming through barbecuing magazines targeted specifically at men which I had found at home. The magazines expressed horrifically objectifying and vilifying portrayals of women. Infuriated by this portrayal, I decided to burn the pages and organize a ceremony to bury the ashes. While this was a merely symbolic burial and sexism is still very much alive, this performance and video calls to bury sexism every day by speaking up against it.

Good Life

Music video (2023)

I had the pleasure of being the Director of Photography and co-editor for the music video for ‘Good Life’ by Li Xuxa and Elvis Ephraim.

RASL Summer Studio Aftermovie

Cinematic Summary of a Four-Day Workshop (2024)

During the RASL Summer Studio 2024, an eclectic group of people explored the theme ‘Staging the Livable City - through the Arts & Sciences’. Led by Arlon Luijten (interdisciplinary artist, educator, researcher), Christoph Brunner (Assistant Professor for Philosophy at Erasmus University), and Annette-Carina van der Zaag (Senior Lecturer at Erasmus University College, writer, and artist) we listened to input from guest speakers, debated, and created.

Acknowledge Climate Colonialism

Video essay (2023)

Join me on a walk through Rotterdam’s historic neighborhood Delfshaven while I tell stories about Delfshaven’s colonial history as well as the colonial history of the climate crisis.

VR experience & performance (2023)

TW: unwarranted sexual comments

This experience is primarily targeted at men to have a glimpse at how we feel when they invade our space. Motivated by our shared experience of unwanted attention and non-consensual touching from men in club spaces, my artistic partner Pien Thoonen and I created an immersive experience that emulates the discomfort that the invasion of one’s personal space brings about.

When exhibited, this VR experience is preceded by a trigger warning. It is paired with olfactory experiences such as the smell of beer and the smell of stereotypical men’s deodorant. Additionally, a hand fan is moved over the 'viewer's’ body to imitate touch. As a form of after care, Pien and I invite the ‘viewer’ to sit down and share their thoughts and feelings through talking or writing.

Please watch at your own discretion.

Fckewaste

Website including an e-waste GHG footprint calculator, a concept for a pick-up service of e-waste, and an educational video (2022)

My project partners Zofia Twardowska, Ajsa, Sebastian and I set ourselves the goal to explore the question of how the flood of steadily increasing e-waste can be tackled in a world that is becoming more and more reliant on technology.

As a group, we came up with the speculative concept of an e-waste pick up service in our city Rotterdam. Ajsa created a calculator that determines how much CO2 the electric devices you have at home produce. I researched, scripted and directed an animated film that explains ones individual consumption in a global context. I made the animation for this video, with the help of Zofia.
